LOGO PROJECT DRAFT

Inspiration:

I actually enjoyed making this logo and in fact I made it on the plane to California. As a kid when I would go on a vacation, I would have the cartoon Looney Tunes downloaded, to keep me entertained. After every cartoon, there would be some iconic character with the words “See ya next time!”. I thought that would be a fun thing to incorporate into my logo.

Design:

I felt like I had to incorporate a plane, since thats the main way I travel. I did this by using the shape tools and the pen tool when I needed to create my own unique shape. A plane was not the easiest thing to make, thats for sure.

To go with the logo and plane, I wanted to show the two most known landscapes of travel; mountains and palm trees. You could interpret that as traveling to Hawaii or Alaska, I felt like it gave it a nice variety. The palm trees were by far the hardest thing to make. I had to create the individual shapes and then mess with the effect “warp” to get the leaves just right.

For the text, I decided to stick with the effect “warp”, I just like the way it looks against the plane. It turns simple words into something that stands out.

All the creation of this logo was done 100% by me.

illustrator tutorials

This was the hardest set of tutorials so far for me. Although it was fun to learn how to use a new software, I struggled creating all of the tutorials. The one I enjoyed the most was the banner. The one I struggled with the most was the coug/name sticker. I look forward to advancing my skills in illustrator.

graphic design final

For my final graphic design, I edited my draft a lot. I decided that I wanted to get rid of some of the pictures, so it looked less messy and more organized. I still kept two pictures of myself traveling since thats the purpose of the blog.

I liked the idea of keeping mainly blue scenic photos to be the highlight. I decided that adding a white border to all the border photos to make it look neat and put together. My favorite photo of the collage is the center beach from my spring break trip to Laguna Beach.

By adding borders and rearranging the photos, I think my collage looks a lot better now with the small touches that I added. I ended up keeping the font and lettering from the draft because I think the pink added a personal touch to the collage and makes the words “pop”.

Draft of the Graphic Project Design

I have decided to change my topic for this blog to travel instead of healthy living because I realized I have a unique perspective on this subject. Coming from Alaska, travel has not always been easy and usually too expensive to do. Now that I live in the “lower 48” as we call it back home, I have more opportunities to travel. During this semester I am going on at least three trips, so I realized how great of a topic that would be for me.

I created this poster on photoshop using all original photos that I have taken myself, therefore I don’t have to worry about copyright issues. I thought the best graphic design for my topic would be a collage of some of the photos I have taken this year. I added some photos of myself but mostly cityscapes and landscapes.

How I created the collage: First, I “place embedded” all of the photos I planned on using. I Find this is the easiest way to add photos in while also creating a layer. That way the photos are all separate. I then hide all but one photo, so that I could mess with the editing of that photo to make it pop a little more. After doing that with all the photos, I unhide them all so that I could start to arrange them in the format that I wanted. I used the move tool and the transform tool to get the pictures exactly how I wanted. I wanted to add text on top of the pictures. I did this by clicking on the text box and messing with the size and color of the text. Since the pictures in the background are so vibrant I thought it would be smart to outline the text so that it was easy to read. I right clicked on the text to bring up “blending options” and used stroke. I choose pink for the outline since its my favorite color and added a “girly” vibe. To make the text a little more unique I decided to add the warp effect.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
